6th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament
The Crystal Lake Central Boys Basketball Program has teamed up with the American Cancer Society and will be hosting its 6th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament. Eight area teams will be participating this year, host Crystal Lake Central, McHenry, Prairie Ridge, Huntley, Antioch, Belvidere North, Carmel (Mundelein) and Hoffman Estates, with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. Last year’s effort raised over $10,000 and this year’s goal is $15,000!
A nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society (cancer.org) and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC.org), the Coaches vs. Cancer program (coachesvscancer.org) empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
The program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership and professional excellence of basketball coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living, through year-round fundraising activities and advocacy. Since 1993, the initiative has raised more than $85 million to fund groundbreaking research, provide up-to-date cancer information, advocate for public health policies, and deliver services to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
CLC players, coaches, and parents will be volunteering their time to help run this event, which starts Monday, November 19th in Crystal Lake Central’s historic fieldhouse, and continues on Friday and Saturday, the 23rd and 24th. This year’s admission is $5. Raffle prizes and giveaways will be available for fans in attendance.
