Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
Government is generally forbidden to deliver, sponsor, orchestrate, or encourage prayers. Since the nation's founding, however, many legislatures have traditionally opened their meetings with prayer. Given this historical tradition, the U.S. Supreme Court has held that legislative prayers are constitutionally permissible if, but only if, they do not use language or symbols specific to one religion. (Courts have held, however, that elected school boards are different than legislatures, and are forbidden to open their sessions even with nonsectarian prayers.) Furthermore, prayergivers at …
Do you have the day off on today to celebrate “Presidents’ Day” with friends or enjoy snacks at a party? Well if not, you are not alone, as the majority of businesses do not observe that day by giving their employees time off.  Most governments, their agencies, and schools do.  However, many retail businesses stay open the whole weekend or week for a special “Presidents Day Sale.” Who should be celebrated on Presidents’ Day?  Well, all presidents, of course.  This special holiday was originally called “Washington’s Birthday” to celebrate the birth on February 22, 1732, of George Washington…
I am a resident of the Northbridge Subdivision in Huntley. My backyard backs up to Haligus Road across from Centegra Health Campus. When we moved into our house we were told that Haligus Road would eventually be built but it would not be a main throughway for Huntley residents. We were also told that Tom’s Farm would never sell its land so we would not have to worry about what was going to be built in back of us. Since then, Centegra Heathbridge and Centegra Immediate Care and Medical Offices have been built and we are awaiting word on more medical buildings and a new hospital. Haligus Road…

As we reflect on the 10th anniversary of 9-11, we wish to thank all of the First Responders and Armed Services Members for their sacrifices to maintain and preserve the strength of our nation. For many people, the date September 11th is a day of mourning and remembrance.  We encourage everyone to participate and attend commemorative events in and around the Huntley area to help on the path to healing.  We shall never forget, we shall keep this day; we shall keep the events and tears in our minds, our memory and our hearts, and take them with us as we carry on. From our Culver’s family, we …
Some days are memorable but a few days will be etched into our memories as long as we live.  Those memories are reinforced by national anniversaries, pictures, TV/Radio, and re-telling of the events. No, this is not just a remembrance of “9/11” but of three events that shocked all of us Americans.  Many of us in Sun City are old enough to remember where we were when all three of these events occurred:                     - The Attack on Pearl Harbor                     - The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy                     - The 9/11 Attack on the World Trade Center Towers You…
It was the first week of September 2001 when my family and I proudly gathered on the parade grounds of Camp Pendleton, San Diego. My grandson, Ken Monsen, was graduating from Marine boot camp and we were so very proud as we watching the young Marines marching toward their families. Even though it was a beautiful early fall day, a huge puddle remained on the field forma rain the day or two before. The troop came to a half just on the other side of the puddle from where we stood and the entire platoon was reflected in the water. It was a magical moment worth many pictures we snapped. The young …
