The most emails in my box was something like 800, but I’ve made an effort over the last year to keep that number under 100 emails. I just get a ton of emails. I don’t mind it really. I always loved AOL's little “You’ve Got Mail” icon _ which is also the title of one of my favorite movies _ because it made me feel special. I didn’t, however, like the sound that came with the emails from one of my first editors. That little chiming bell gave me the jitters for months on end. What makes my day is getting emails with little gems like this one: "Honor National S'mores Day on August 10 with Taste…
I don’t get out to the movies very much nowadays. It happens when you have little ones. They are just getting to the point that they enjoy the Disney movies, so it’s still a treat to get out to a grownup movie. One of the movies I’ve been waiting all summer for is The Dark Knight Rises. I have been a fan of all the Batman movies since they started coming out in the late 1980s. It was always an event when a Batman movie came out and I’d be in line the first day. We got tickets for the new Batman movie earlier this week. It is the 10 p.m. showing at a theater where I’ve watched many of these …

Huntley’s ceremony is a symbol of its past, present and future. The first ribbon cutting was held in 1936 when Huntley was a small town. The two-lane road was fitting for the sleepy country town. Huntley’s growth propelled the Route 47 widening project that started two years ago and was completed last month. The two-lane road caused traffic snarls and headaches as the town’s population went from about 5,700 people in 2000 to 24,…
The pain, at the back of my head, came on suddenly and made me feel as if I was going to pass out or vomit. I’d had that kind of headache before and it had gone away. So I took a few aspirin and waited for the pain to subside. This time felt different. It didn’t go completely away. The dull throbbing kept waking me up all night. The next day, 24 hours after the first attack, the pain moved to the right side of my head. My family urged me to go to the emergency room. I couldn’t even argue back the way I usually do when it comes to going to the ER. Hours later, an ER doctor informed me that I…

Follow these few tips on how to make your move-in day stress-free.  1. Make sure you have a checklist of your school's recommended items to bring to college. Here's an example from the University of Missouri. 2. Discuss with your roommate which one of you will buy the more expensive amenities like a television, microwave, and refrigerator, coffee maker, and toaster. Most schools only allow one of each per room. 3. Make sure your bed set abides by your school's bedding requirements. Most college beds require extra-long twin sheets, sold at Kohl's, Target, and Bed Bath & Beyond. 4. STORAGE! You…
