Half-Price Books Celebrates Grand Opening

Events planned for grand opening Thursday, April 25 to Sunday, April 28.

The wait is over. Half-Price Books is opening Thursday, April 25 and has many event planned throughout the weekend to commemorate its new store in the Algonquin Commons. Half-Price Books offers new and used books at discount prices. The store also purchases books from the public. The store is located at 2226 South Randall Road.

Crystal Lake's 'Sober Bar' Prepares for Saturday Grand Opening

The Other Side will celebrate its grand opening starting at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 27.

Word has spread about the impending opening of Crystal Lake's non-alcoholic nightclub, The Other Side. In fact, the buzz about the "sober bar" has been so great its creators are expecting over 500 people to attend the 8 p.m. grand opening this Saturday at 94 E. Berkshire Dr. Unit G., next to J.T.'s Framing. Chris Reed, 22, president of the New Directions Addiction Recovery Services Board, said his non-for-profit group has applied for a temporary use permit from the city to allow the grand opening to spill over into the adjacent parking lot. The Other Side, located in the back warehouse of Reed's construction company offices, has a maximum capacity of 189 people. Place was horrible, wasted 3 hrs of my life people watching... people were all over the place (mainly outside) the band inside had a bunch of old people and its was bare. Running Depot to Host Event for Boston

The "Run as One" three-mile run/walk will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 22.

The Running Depot, 30 Williams St. in Crystal Lake, will host a "Run as One" three mile run/walk on Monday to pay tribute to those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings, according to a Running Depot website.  The event will be held at 6 p.m.  Those attending are encouraged to wear any past or present Boston Marathon gear or your favorite race shirt. The Running Depot will be taking orders for $20 shirts and all proceeds will go to http://onefundboston.org.

Flash Flood Warning Issued for McHenry County

National Weather Service in Chicago issued a severe thunderstorm warning for McHenry County until 12:15 p.m. and a flash flood warning until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for McHenry County until 12:15 p.m. The severe thunderstomr warning includes the following areas: At 11:15 a.m., a severe thunerstorm was located near Maple Park, moving northeast at 45 mph. Residents should be on the alert for quarter-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts. The flash flood warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday for: Thunderstorms producing torrential downpours are possible, with rainfall rates exceeding 1.5 inches per half hour. Kane County Emergency Management reports that the Route 47 and Plato Road intersection is completely flooded, the National Weather Service reports.  Additional thunderstorms are expected to move across the region later…

Centegra Argues Against Advocate and Sherman Merger

  The Illinois Health Facility and Services Review board heard Centegra Health System’s opposition to a merger between Advocate Health Care and Sherman Hospital, the Northwest Herald report. Review board members held a hearing on the merger Monday in Elgin. The merger would have Advocate investing $200 million into Sherman, including $60 million for capital replacements, the newspaper reported. Centegra has called the merger “financially irresponsible.” Centegra is building a hospital in Huntley and faced opposition from both Sherman and Advocate during its hearings before the review board, which must grant hospitals permission for any new construction, expansion or mergers. The merger is listed on the review board’s May 14 agenda.

Lake in the Hills Theater to Sell Alcohol

AMC Lake in the Hills 12, 311 N. Randall Road, is undergoing several renovations, which will include the addition of a small lobby bar.

A bar area, new reclining seats and more aisle space for movie-goers are a few of the major upgrades underway at the Lake in the Hills movie theater. The Lake in the Hills Village Board on Thursday approved a liquor license for the AMC Theatre at 311 N. Randall Road in Lake in the Hills, which will allow the theater to move forward with plans to add a small lobby bar, according to the LITH weekly resident newsletter. The addition of the bar will allow those over the age of 21 years old to purchase alcoholic beverages before and after the movie and also bring those drinks into the movie theaters, according to village documents. The bar concept, MacGuffins, is used by other AMC theaters throughout the country, according to AMC’s website. …

Huntley Gains New Business, New Jobs

RPS Products moving to town, creating 50 new jobs.

  RPS, a leading supplier of residential home filters and related products, announced Thursday it will relocate a portion of its operations to the vacant 65,000 square foot formerly occupied by Dean Foods, according to a release. The company’s products are known under the “Best Air” trade name and RPS sells to major retailers throughout the U.S. Operations at the new Huntley location are planned to begin as early June. “Our location in Huntley only 1.5 miles from the new I-90 interchange will allow us to be highly efficient in the transportation and logistical elements of our operations,” said Dan Schuld, RPS president. “Clearly, the new interchange was a significant positive factor in our decision to locate in Huntley.” The move was …

I don't have any children in the Huntley school system either. However I do appreciate those home owners that paid their taxes when my children were in the schools years ago.
