2013 Relay for Life of Huntley

This weekend, I was lucky enough to attend the ACS Leadership Summit with representatives from the many other Illinois communities that Relay.  What an incredible opportunity to meet others who share the passion to fight against cancer.

We all had the chance to take part in round table discussions where we shared ideas and successes from our Relays.  The energy shared by all was truly amazing.  There are so many great people participating in the Relay for Life events and all anxious to share their 'Why I Relay' stories and what they do throughout the year to continue the fight.

The ACS planning team did a fantastic job pulling it all together, from the breakout sessions and inspirational guest speakers to the recognitions and awards.

One of the big things that stuck with me was when someone said of the volunteers "We're not here to manage an event, we're here to lead a movement".

As we start preparing for the 2013 Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society encourages us to "Dream Big, Hope Big, Relay Big".

It's been great to see our community come together in support of this cause over the last 4 years.  I hope to see our event continue to grow.  To help us to continue to be successful in this cause as we start to plan for our 5th Relay and beyond, we need help from volunteers.  If you are interested in hearing about ways you can help us in the fight against cancer, please contact Mike Jostes (ACS staff partner) at Mike.Jostes@cancer.org or Tiffany Scerbicke (Event Chair) at RelayforLifeofHuntley@gmail.com.  You can also visit our website at www.RelayforLife.org/HuntleyIL

Lastly, we have a new name.  We are no longer referred to as the RFL of Northern Fox Valley, but instead RFL of Huntley.  However, our event continues to include the surrounding communities such as Algonquin, LITH, Woodstock, Gilberts, Marengo, Pingree Grove and Hampshire.  We look forward to the continued support of our volunteers and these communities.

Thank you!!
