Regional Crime Report: Charges In Palatine Man's Death, Heroin Deal Suspect Sought and More

South Barrington

Charges In Palatine Man's Death

A Schaumburg man was charged by South Barrington police in the death of a 19-year-old Palatine man that occurred in South Barrington in April.

Timothy R. Hughes, 27, of the 400 block of Woodcroft Court, was charged with aggravated DUI and appeared at a bond hearing at Cook County court in Rolling Meadows May 14, said Dept. Ray Cordell.

William Cole Deacon was standing in Barrington Road near Willow Creek Community Church when he was hit by Hughes' Toyota Corolla on April 28, according to an article in the Daily Herald. He died May 7.

Des Plaines

Feds Hunt Heroin Deal Suspects

A Chicago man is wanted by federal authorities for drug-related charges after he picked up a kilogram of heroin in Des Plaines in May, according to court documents filed by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Anthony Santiago, 38, of Des Plaines, delivered one kilogram of heroin to Jason M. Hill, 40, of Chicago, at Santiago’s residence in the 500 block of Bellaire in Des Plaines on May 12, according to the complaint.

Santiago and Hill were under surveillance as part of a federal investigation into a drug trafficking organization with ties to Mexican nationals, stated a press release issued by the DEA.

Gurnee

State Senator Arrested

A dispute with a neighbor led to State Senator Suzi Schmidt being arrested on a two count misdemeanor warrant. Count 1 was for criminal damage to property (Class A) and Count 2 was for criminal trespass to property (Class B).

Officers from the Lake County Sheriff's Office arrested Schmidt at approximately 5:15 p.m. Tuesday. Both counts stemmed from a neighbor dispute, according to a statement from the LCSO.

Lake Forest

Wooden Snow Shoe Theft

Peter J. Norman, 18, 29659 Bayshore Drive, Lake Bluff, was charged with theft at 8:55 a.m. March 10 in the 1200 block of McKinley Road. Norman gained unauthorized control of one pair of wooden snow shoes belonging to a Lake Forest High School student, according to police. He was arrested June 5. Norman posted a $120 bond pending a July 3 court date in Park City.

Absolut Vodka Taken – Two Days in A Row

William A. Haberland, 53, 499 E. College Road, Lake Forest, was charged with two counts of retail theft from incidents on May 27 and May 28 in the 800 block of North Western Avenue. He took a bottle of Absolut Vodka from a grocery store without paying on two consecutive days, authorities said. Haberland posted a $150 bond pending a June 22 court date in Waukegan.

Buffalo Grove

Someone's In The Storage Room

A complex manager at Villa Verde reported that there might be an intoxicated person who has been sleeping in a storage room. The manager believes that a resident in that building allows the person in at night. Management will encourage the residents of that building to call 911 immediately should they see the person.

Vernon Hills

Retail Theft: $1,400 In Merchandise

Two individuals were charged with retail theft June 9 after allegedly leaving a store at 1 Hawthorn Center without paying for $1,452 in merchandise. Arrested were: Agnieszka Blonska, 33, of 3321 N. Neva, Chicago; and Anthony M. Caputo, 32, of 2 Birmingham Place, Vernon Hills. They were each also charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic needle.
