Last Minute Gift Ideas on a Budget

If you have a few people left on your list and not as much left in your budget, here are some ideas for you.

The clock is ticking. Have you found gifts for everyone on your list? If you're in need of some last minute gifts with a personal touch, I have a few ideas and local deals to share.

Add a little bit of yourself into these gifts:

Hallmark has an online coupon that you can download and use for $10.00 off when you purchase two of their record-able storybooks ($29.95), with Voice Save Technology, you just read aloud from the book until you've got it right, then save, wrap and give a keepsake gift that will be cherished for years. Titles vary from "Frosty the Snowman" to "The Night before Christmas."

Another option from Hallmark is their Interactive Storybook and Story Buddy ($24.95), who chimes in as you and your little one read key phrases from the story. This season's character is Jingle the Husky Pup and his book, "Jingle All the Way."

These exclusive books are only available at Gold Crown stores. Both Lorenn's Hallmark in the Village Green plaza in Huntley and Kirlin's Hallmark in The Algonquin Commons are Hallmark Gold Crown stores. Kirlin's is open later than Lorenn's, check the directories and call before you go.

Another option for personalized gifts can be found at Walgreens (one hour coupon and order link). There is a select group of personalized photo gifts available through Walgreens one hour photo. Unfortunately, neither of the two Walgreens locations in Huntley offer these one hour gift options. However, there are three Walgreens within 10 miles of Huntley and you can upload your digital pictures, order your gifts and pick them up at your convenience.

The three closest Walgreens with the one hour gift option are at the following locations:100 N Randall Rd , in Lake in the Hills,1700 Larkin Ave. in Elgin and 2155 Randall Rd Carpentersville.

For something less personable, yet still having a personal touch:

If you have someone (or a few someones) on your list who "Run(s) on Dunkin,"  then this deal's for you.

Dunkin' Donuts,  12090 Princeton Dr, Huntley, is currently running an offer that has four one pound bags of coffee for only $19.99. This deal runs until Dec. 26, in store and online. Add on a retro-themed holiday ornament, like a throwback rectangular donut box or a white coffee mug with a 1950s Dunkin' Donuts logo ($3.99 each), and wrap in a basket or holiday themed bowl or gift bags. You can include with some holiday-themed coffee mugs from Walmart and you can have a few decent gift baskets depending on how you choose to distribute the beans.

On your way to a get-together and you left the hostess gift on the kitchen counter:

If it's after 6pm on Christmas Eve or it's Christmas day, turn around and go back home to get that gift!

Otherwise, for a very last minute gift that you don't have to worry about wrapping in the car on the way over (yes, I have done this), Jewel-Osco, Dominicks and Trader Joes are all open until 6pm on Christmas Eve and they all have Poinsettia plants starting at $3.33 -$3.39 for a 4 inch pot. And, a decent bottle of wine from any of the three stores won't break the bank.
