Huntley Tea Party Forum on Gun Control

The Huntley Area Tea Party is delving into the controversial issue of gun control with a panel of experts from both sides of the debate at a forum this week.

The Tea Party is holding a forum on the Second Amendment and the Right of Citizens to Conceal Carry at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Codman Cultural Center, 12015 Mill St., in Huntley.

Speakers include State Rep. Mike Tryon, Huntley Police Chief John Perkins, State Rep. Tim Schmidt along with Bill and Jennifer Jenkins from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association.

Bill Jenkins is the father of 16-year-old William Jenkins who was murdered in a 1997 robbery in Virginia. Jennifer Bishop Jenkins is the sister of Nancy Bishop Langert who was killed with her husband and their unborn child in Winnetka in 1990.

Nancy Bishop Langert and her family were killed by a teen who did it for the “thrill.”

Pearson has been executive director for the ISRA since 2004.

Each panel will present their views along with specific reasons and facts supporting their views. The panel will then take questions from the audience.

By presenting both sides of the controversial, the Tea Party hopes to provide the public with factual information and stimulate meaningful and respectful discussion.
