Huntley Holds 2012 Citizen Police Academy
Applications for the upcoming class are being accepted through Feb. 29.
Do you find yourself combing through the weekly police reports?
Do the sounds of sirens and the glare of lights flashing in the rearview mirror get your heart racing — even when you know you’re not getting a ticket?
Then you might be the right candidate for the 2012 Citizen Police Academy hosted by the Huntley Police Department.
The department is accepting applications for the Citizen Police Academy, which is scheduled to begin March 7.
The class will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. every Wednesday through May 9 at the Huntley Police Department, 10911 Main St., according to a department press release.
The Citizen Police Academy is a 10-week program designed to give participants a working knowledge of the Huntley Police Department. It consists of a series of classes and discussions that provide an overview of the various areas of law enforcement.
“The academy is an educational and informative program that allows citizens the opportunity to learn about the issues that affect law enforcement efforts in the village of Huntley,” the press release states.
The academy is free and open to individuals who are 18 years and older. It is open to anyone who lives or works in the village. However, applicants will be subject to a background check.
Graduates of the program are not certified police officers; however, they are prepared with a better knowledge of how law enforcement agencies operate.
Some graduates go on to join the Huntley Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association, which provides continuing education and volunteer opportunities with the department.
Advanced registration is required, and class size is limited. Applications are available at the police department, or can be downloaded from the Huntley Police Department website.
The registration deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 29. More information is available by calling Sgt. Marak at 1-847-515-5409.

This is an amazing program and a fun and exciting one. It gives you an insite on what it takes to put a police officer on the street. The training, the effort and the knowledge to keepthe community safe. I highly recommend this program. If you have not signed up, make an effort to do this today.
