Huntley Highlights Regulations You Need to Know
The village’s monthly newsletter, the Village Journal, is out and includes information about ordinances and regulations.
Did you know leaf burning is not allowed in Huntley?
It’s one of the topics covered in Huntley’s monthly newsletter, the Village Journal, which was released this week. The newsletters are sent out with water bills but the village advises residents who have auto pay can look up the newsletter online.
Here is this month’s Regulations You Need to Know from the Village Journal:
No leaf burning
Huntley’s Village Board adopted the McHenry County Open Burning Ordinance to cover ALL property within the Village. Due to the relatively small size of residential lots in Huntley, leaf burning is essentially illegal for the vast majority of homeowners within Village limits. For complete rules on Open
Burning and to learn more about yard waste pickup services available in your area, please check the Village website.
No parking on the sidewalks
The Huntley Police Department has received numerous complaints from pedestrians and bicyclists about vehicles parked over the sidewalk. Vehicle
owners that allow their vehicle to be parked across any sidewalk in the Village are in violation of Village Ordinance and subject to a $25.00 fine. Effective October 1, Huntley Police Department Officers began aggressively enforcing this ordinance.
Stop is required for pedestrians at crosswalks
When traffic control signals are not in place or not in operation the driver of a vehicle shall stop and yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk when the pedestrian is upon the half of the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling, or when the pedestrian is approaching so closely from the opposite half of the roadway as to be in danger. (625 ILCS 5/11-1002) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-1002)
