Crystal Lake flags were lowered to half-staff today and people gathered outside Crystal Lake South and throughout downtown as the body of USMC Captain Nathan McHone was brought to Davenport Funeral Home.

McHone died Jan. 19 in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

Visitation for McHone will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Davenport. The funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 932 S. McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake.

Parking will also be available at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 1023 McHenry Ave.

McHone will be buried in Windridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Cary.

Instead of flowers, the family has asked for donations for the Capt. Nathan R. McHone Memorial Scholarship Fund. Donations can be sent in care of Crystal Lake Bank and Trust, 5100 Route 14, Crystal Lake, IL 60014.

As a former U.S. Marine who was fortunate enough to never serve in a combat situation. I'd like to send my condolences out to the family and friends of Captain McHone.
