CL Man Flown to Hospital After Car Hits Utility Pole
Alexander C. Papageorgiou, 22, was transported to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock, and then flown to Condell Hospital.
A Crystal Lake man had to be extricated from his car after he crashed into utility pole Wednesday on Ridgefield Road, sheriff police said.
Alexander C. Papageorgiou, 22, 340 Hampton Ct., was driving his 2003 Hyundai SUV northbound on Ridgefield Road, and at about 5 p.m. his car left the road for unknown reasons, according to a press release issued Thursday by McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren.
Papageorgiou's Hyundai struck several trees and a utility pole, Nygren said. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which occured near 8550 Ridgefield Rd., Crystal Lake.
Papageorgiou did not have any passengers in his car, and alcohol is believed to have been a factor, Nygren said.
Papageorgiou was initially transported from the crash site to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock. From there, he was then flown to Condell Hospital.
Traffic on Ridgefield Road was detoured for approximately three hours while ComEd crews worked on the utility pole that was damaged in the crash.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
