Chowdown Showdown Hot Dog Challenge

Let us know by commenting below where your favorite place is in the county to get a hot dog.

It’s the start of a new week, which means it is time to kick off this week's Chowdown Showdown Challenge.

The weekly Chowdown Showdown is meant to be a fun and easy way for readers to pick and vote on their favorite places to get certain entrees in McHenry County. Each week, we will ask you to tell us your favorite place to get a bowl of chili or a burger or a stack of pancakes.

This week we are looking to McHenry County Patch readers to let us know, where is your favorite place to get a hot dog in the county?

You can let us know your favorite by commenting below (only one vote or comment per user, please!). You will be able to submit your vote through 5 p.m. Tuesday.

From there, we will take the top finalists and post in an article first thing Wednesday morning. Then it will be time to vote again — this time for the Chowdown Showdown champion.

Voting will continue through noon Friday, and we will announce the winner first thing Saturday morning.

This is all about participation so we hope you will chime in and check back.

So, without further ado, let’s get the voting started. Patch readers, tell us by commenting below, where is the BEST place to get a hot dog in McHenry County?

About this column: Each week, the McHenry County Patch sites will be on the hunt for the best place to get certain entrees in the area. The Chowdown Showdown will allow readers to vote on where their favorite place is to get a burger or a latte or a steak, etc., in the county. Related Topics: Chowdown Showdown

But I have to agree with Robert, ketchup does NOT belon on a hot dog!

Tommy's. If you are over 12 years old, ketchup has no business being on a hot dog.

Yes, "Just Hot Dogs" in C'Ville are just as good as Gene and Judes, I lived in River Grove for 30 years, ate many a hot dog. Try them out and compare, they are just South of Aldi's on Rte 31.

Anyone else suspect Day Go Dogs is running a campaign urging their customers to Vote here? In reality, a Hot Dog is a Hot Dog.

Hot Diggity Dog...my vote is for Day Go Dogs. The hot dog crunches when ya bite into it, the relish says "sweet", onions cut to perfection, the mustard slathered from end to end, the bun steamed and ready to embrace the dog! Thats what I'm talkin about. DayGoDogs!!!

Instead of learning the tricks of the trade, why don't they just learn the trade? Spend your time making a better hot dog instead of stuffing an online ballot.

What do you think will happen when people see the online review, stop by, and then wonder what all the hype was about?

I ate there, and I would be surprised if the place lasted two years. The owner puts his time and energy into marketing and hype, not a great meal or making the customer happy. Not a plan for long-term success. Did you read the part about people in California interested in franchising this business? They've been open a few months and already the owner is telling the newspaper that people want him to go national?

I agree also, see where you will be in 2 years, Gene & Judes been there for over 55 years, all day long they are busy, when the evening comes the lines are out the door, and they usually have 8 to 10 people working.
