Dustin M. Mancill, 23, of Cary, has been charged with various offenses after police said he tried to bring a hatchet into the McHenry County Courthouse on Thursday.

Police have charged Cary resident Dustin M. Mancill, 23, with various offenses after he allegedly attempted to bring a hatchet into the McHenry County Courthouse in Woodstock on Thursday, the Northwest Herald reports.

The charges against Mancill stemming from the Jan. 10 incident include two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, three counts of resisting arrest, and one count of unlawful use of a weapon, the Herald reports.

McHenry County Court records show Mancill was scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. on misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and aggravated assault of a police officer issued against him by the Cary Police Department in February 2011.

While Mancill was proceeding through the normal security screening at 8 a.m. at the courthouse, a security guard saw a hatchet tucked inside the front of Mancill's pants, according to the article. The security officer grabbed the weapon and pulled Mancill aside, at which time a scuffle ensued. Mancill was transported to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock for evaluation, the Herald reports.

no doubt. It could be that this innocent man did not realize that an evil hatchet had somehow attached itself to him before he went into the court building. You are right, it is the hatchets fault for threatening people and not the person carrying it. After all the gun debate is over the same type of logic. If it looks scary, you need to be scared and therefore ban it. Now if we can just do something about spoons making people fat....
