Break Free From Smoking
Centegra Health System offers freedom from smoking classes in partnership with McHenry County Department of Health.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of death in McHenry County among men and women ages 45 to 75, the 2010 McHenry County Health Communtiy Study reported.
“We know quitting isn’t easy. To be successful, people need to be aware of the challenges they will face and the different options available for getting help,” said Celine Pope, wellness manager with Centegra Health System.
The classes offer group support and behavior modification and review the nicotine replacement products currently on the market.
“Having support is very important when people are trying to quit. Share plans to quit with family and friends and ask them for support during the process,” Pope said. “The Freedom from Smoking classes also offer support and tools to help people be successful.”
The McHenry County Department of Health staff members who are trained in the American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking program teach the class. Seven classes will be conducted from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, beginning March 28, at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center-Huntley located at 10450 Algonquin Road.
The $25 course fee is refundable if all seven sessions are attended. Call 877-CENTEGRA for more information and to register.
