Awareness Grows as Residents Stand Up to Drug Crisis
Take A Stand, a drug abuse awareness group, held an event at Paulus Park in Lake Zurich, Saturday. One message of speakers was that the first step to ending the drug epidemic and overdose deaths in the suburbs is to admit the problem exists.

There's something I've always found it amusing in one way and tragic in another. Try driving around here, or basically anywhere, while observing the speed limit. As often as not, most cars will go past you at about five to ten miles per hour over the speed limit with their radar detector clearly visible. Several of them have one or more of the following bumper stickers; "Hugs not Drugs" "Proud Parent of a DARE Graduate" or "Proud Parent of an Honor Student from XYZ School." What comes to my mind is what does it teach your Honor student or DARE graduate when you drive over the speed limit while trusting in a radar detector to protect oneself because, "Everyone speeds."

Valid point but ignorant. However, be thankful you obviously do not understand how helpful and healing this event was to those who particpated. A pain I would not wish on anyone.....

How is it ignorant to ask a question? I didn't say anything deleterious about the event. While I'm confident that it was helpful and healing to those who participated, that doesn't mean that we can't ask questions about how the event itself was conducted.
In years past, people threw rice at weddings. That's now frowned upon because it's bad for birds - so bird seed is often subsituted.
Balloon launches have been traditionally performed, but are now frowned upon because it's bad for wildlife, so in MANY cases, candlelight vigils are held (and sometimes with LED candles depending upon the dryness of the area).
If someone took what I said as being disrespectful of the event, that's unfortunate, but it wasn't my intention. And yes, I do understand how the event can be helpful to those who participate.

Its easier and cheaper to get herion than a 6 pack. Why? Drug dealers are never closed and dont care how old you are.
Make it legal, regulate it, spend the tax windfall on drug education and rehabilatation.
War on drugs is a failure. The only winners have been the goverment and gangs. The goverment uses the war on drugs to trash the consitution.......we must stop this war and turn it around. We waste 50 billion plus a year and get no tax revenue or jobs. It could be a huge win, but no........

My question is, are drug death's from street drugs, or the diversion of legally purchased pharmacueticals? I ask this as someone who has worked in the pharma industry and personally believe the ease in which legal med's are "pushed" may be a greater concern than street drugs such as herion. Can somone comment on this?

Drug deaths are from both, the Lake County coroner's office has a breakdown. By far, the greatest percentage of overdose deaths are from heroin.
