Police Seek Missing Woman From St. Charles Area

If you have information about Tanner Conroyd's whereabouts, please call Kane County Sheriff’s detectives at 1-630-444-1103.

Aug. 23 Update: Tanner Conroyd was found in a Chicago-area hospital.

Authorities in at least five jurisdictions from Chicago to Normal are searching for a 20-year-old resident of rural St. Charles who last was seen about noon Sunday, Aug. 19.

Tanner Conroyd left her house on Route 31 in rural St Charles after an argument with family members, but authorities say her father believed she was heading to Illinois State University, where she was planning to attend the fall semester but had not yet enrolled. Her family contacted her friends at ISU and when they learned none of them had seen her arrive at the school, the woman’s family reported her missing Sunday evening to the Normal Police Department.

Since then, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, and police departments in St. Charles, Sugar Grove, and Chicago have joined in the search for the missing 20-year-old.

According to the sheriff’s office, the preliminary investigation has revealed:

  • She left her house at about noon Sunday, Aug. 19;
  • At about 1 p.m., she got gas at a gas station in Sugar Grove;
  • At about 1:30 p.m., she was seen at the Brown Pub in Hinckley, where she stayed for about three hours. It is believed her car broke down. The sheriff's office said in a second release Wednesday night that Conroyd then solicited the help of an area resident who gave her a ride to the Aurora Transportation Center, where authorities believe she took a train to Chicago's Union Station.

The next location she appears to have been at was Millennium Park in Chicago. She spoke to a security guard at Millennium Park about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, when the park was closing. Tanner provided the guard her cellphone number so he could call her to make sure she got home OK. Her family had her phone and talked to the security guard when he called.

On Monday, Aug. 20, she was seen again at Millennium Park. This was the last confirmed sighting of her.

The sheriff’s office states she was wearing a pink shirt with blue Capri pants and gold-framed glasses. Tanner is a white female standing 5 feet 6 inches and weighing about 160 pounds. She has brown hair and green eyes. The second release stated she is believed to have been carrying a red guitar, possibly in a black, soft-sided case.

"This type of activity is out of the ordinary for Tanner and her family is concerned that she may be suffering from some sort of psychological issue," the second release states. "Her family believes she may be near a park, library, anything related to music, a museum, or college campus."

The family has set up a Facebook page: Find Tanner Conroyd.

The vehicle she was driving is a white 1995 Ford Crown Victoria bearing Illinois license plate 4566359. The vehicle was found Wednesday, Aug. 22, near the Brown Pub in Hinckley, but it appears to have been there since Sunday, the sheriff’s office release states.

This investigation is ongoing and facts are subject to change as detectives continue to interview people involved in the case, according to the release, which also states the sheriff’s office has not ruled out foul play being involved in the investigation.

Anyone with information on Tanner’s whereabouts is encouraged to call Kane County sheriff’s detectives at 630-444-1103.

Hopefully there will be a happy ending to this story and she will be safe and sound, Could it be that the car trouble was because of BP defective gas?

I wonder if they tried pinging her. Pinging a cell phone is finding out what cell tower their phone is in. This can be used to locate a person that you know has the cell phone. This is used by law enforcement on a regular basis.
Usually the information is provided by the cellular provider and you have to have an account with them. In 911 systems the location is broadcast with the call.
If she is carrying a cell phone the phone is constantly sending signals to the closest cell tower, even if the phone isn't in use. The location of the cell tower will tell you that the person is within a certain range. When the person moves they can be tracked by which cell towers the signal is bouncing to.

that would work if her phone wasn't at her parents home. so "pinging" wouldn't work here
