Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, according to the American Heart Association (AHA).

Since February is “American Heart Month,” JEWEL-OSCO is partnering with the AHA to raise awareness and funds to support the organization’s “Go Red For Women®” campaign to fight heart disease.

JEWEL-OSCO will donate more than $40,000 to the campaign through donations collected at store registers and sales of special “Go Red For Women”-themed merchandise at the Huntley store (13200 Village Green Drive, tel 847-961-5597), and other select stores. The items being offered while supplies last include t-shirts, mugs, baseball caps and environmentally-friendly bags. JEWEL-OSCO also has tie-ins with several vendors to support “Go Red For Women.”

“We remain dedicated to educating the public about the threat of heart disease to women,” said Nancy Chagares, JEWEL-OSCO senior vice president of marketing and merchandising. “American Heart Month gives us an excellent opportunity to reach out to our customers and the community and educate them about the steps we can all take to protect ourselves and our loved ones.”
